About
American Colonial Home publishes the fascinating, strange, and mysterious side of early American life. The unsolved disappearances, the odd beliefs, the dramatic episodes that never made it into textbooks, the surprising things ordinary people did, believed, and endured between 1607 and 1783.
The stories here are accurate. That matters to us more than anything else. Colonial America was not one place or one experience, and the most interesting version of any story is almost always the honest one. Where the record is clear, we say so. Where it is thin, disputed, or legend dressed up as fact, we say that too.
Every story is researched from primary sources, period documents, and the digitized collections of the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, HathiTrust, and the Digital Public Library of America. Our approach to evidence is on the Historical Method page.
The Colonial Mysteries Letter goes out by email whenever there is something worth sending. Stories, discoveries, things you never knew. Free.
